Dr. Quandt approaches dentistry from the foundation upward. He has advanced training in neuromuscular dentistry, which involves the entire oral system. By addressing teeth, gums, jaw joint alignment, occlusion, and associated muscles, nerves, and tissues, Dr. Quandt practices whole-mouth dentistry. All of your restorations and prosthetics will be created according to the wellbeing and optimal function of your entire oral system.
Neuromuscular dentistry, broken down, refers to neuro (nerves) and muscles. Dentistry, of course, refers to the teeth. So neuromuscular dentistry is the study of the teeth and associated nerves and muscles.
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joints. These are the two small joints that connect the jawbone to the skull. They are located just below the ears. If the TMJ joints are misaligned, patients can experience these nagging, sometimes debilitating, symptoms:
Misaligned TMJ joints contribute to a condition known as TMJ disorder, TMJ dysfunction, or TMD. The disorder can be caused by heredity, stress, habits, and many other factors.
To correct TMJ disorder, Dr. Quandt relies on neuromuscular dentistry. If you experience any of the symptoms listed above, Dr. Quandt will assess your TMJ alignment. He may use a TENS unit made by Myotronics to stimulate and relax jaw muscles, which allows the jaw to rest in the natural and optimal position. With his K7, Dr. Quandt can record the jaw’s proper position. Then he will create a custom oral appliance to realign the jaw joints.
Dr. Quandt may also recommend stress relief exercises, physical therapy, restorations to build up a worn bite, and/or habit changes. He will thoroughly explain his findings and suggestions, then work with you to find a solution that relieves your pain and restores your mouth to optimal function.

Dr. Quandt,
I am a registered nurse and suffered from chronic migraines and tension headaches that prescription medications couldn’t touch. I began waking up daily with headaches and a tight, achy jaw. At my biannual checkup, Dr. Quandt mentioned that I may fit the criteria for a special orthotic that helps TMD. We scheduled a TMD screening appointment and the rest is blissful history.
I’ve been wearing my orthotic for approximately two years now. I rarely suffer from any type of headache and the tight achy jaw is gone. I no longer need to worry about carrying headache medication everywhere with me!
The entire experience with Dr. Quandt and his staff has been enjoyable and exciting. It is priceless to have my health and wellbeing back.
Thank you Dr. Quandt,
Heather P.
